Cold Starts: Turn ignition to accessory, depress accelerator to the floor once or twice to set the choke, and crank without pumping. Allow the idle to stabilize for 30–60 seconds before pulling away smoothly under light load. Gear Shifts: The 4-speed manual uses floor-mounted mechanical linkage with relatively long throws. Shift deliberately and let the syncros engage naturally; rushing the 1–2 or 3–2 downshift can cause gear crunch. Reverse is engaged by pressing the lever straight down into the floor, pulling left, and back. Engine RPM & Cruising: Air-cooled engines prefer to spin rather than lug. Avoid accelerating hard in 3rd or 4th gear at low engine speeds; downshift to keep RPMs in the mid-range where the cooling fan moves sufficient air volume.
